The battle against food waste continues...
In March, there was an additional LABELORD newsletter which was completely about food waste. Luckily, this theme is getting increasingly more attention, which is important if we want to achieve the United Nations’ goal: “50% less food waste in 2030”. What have you already done to reduce food waste in your kitchen?
LABELLORD primarily stands for food safety but additionally, our solutions in the field of food coding help to counteract food waste. Because we think this is very important, we like to regularly share new initiatives in the fight against food waste.
ResQ
A European example within the catering industry is ResQ. Through an app, restaurant entrepreneurs sell meals that would otherwise go to waste. In return, consumers get good quality, inexpensive restaurant food and get to know new restaurants in the vicinity.
The restaurant uploads a dish, which consumers can directly buy and pay through ResQ. They pick up the food or eat it at the catering facility. This way, good food is saved from turning into waste, local business can generate additional revenue and reach a new audience. And of course this initiative is environmental friendly. At the moment ResQ is active in Germany, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands and Sweden and the company is looking to further expand.
